Pathos

The ego itself is pathological. Pathological comes from pathos, which means suffering. The ego is suffering, but we don’t recognize suffering, it seems normal because we are constantly blaming situations for our suffering or trying to remedy it. Thus we never recognize that it is a false state of mind.
